Dr Hannah McCann
Chief Investigator
Dr Hannah McCann is the project lead, and a Senior Lecturer in Cultural Studies and ARC DECRA Fellow at the University of Melbourne. Her research is located within critical femininity studies.
Hannah’s first book Queering Femininity: Sexuality, Feminism and the Politics of Presentation was published with Routledge in 2018. In 2020 her co-authored textbook Queer Theory Now: From Foundations to Queer Futures, written with Dr Whitney Monaghan (Monash), is available via Bloomsbury.

Shirley Xue Chen
Research Assistant
Shirley Xue Chen is a research assistant on this project, and a PhD Candidate at Monash University’s School of Film, Media and Journalism. Their current research focuses on the junction between contemporary feminist scholarship and queer theory in the media.
Shirley’s thesis considers how feminist subject positions and ideologies shape perceptions and representations of queer men on television and social media. Some of their work on this topic has been published in the European Journal of Cultural Studies.
